Brattleboro-West Arts: New Passage
Atrium Hallway Gallery opening Feb. 2

BRATTLEBORO: A new exhibit space in the Brooks House will open in February, spotlighting the artwork of Brattleboro-West Arts members.

The show, titled New Passage, will feature pastels by Lesley Heathcote, encaustics by Jen Wiechers and acrylic paintings by Walter Slowinski in the Atrium Hallway Gallery, 130 Main St. It will kick off with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. during Brattleboro’s Feb. 2 Gallery Walk. Share the evening with the artists and enjoy light refreshments, set to the funny, fun, funky, folky music of The 2Bit 2Man Froggy-Went-aCourtin’ Orchestra. The duo, featuring Slowinski on clarinet and Ron Bos-Lun on mandolin, will play from 6 to 7 p.m.

The ongoing exhibit is at the invitation of fellow Brattleboro-West Arts members Petria Mitchell and Jim Giddings, who worked with the Brooks House management to create a venue in the hallway to showcase local artists.

Brattleboro-West Arts was founded in 2009 by neighbors who recognized the vibrant creative community that exists in the watershed of the Whetstone Brook west of downtown Brattleboro. Since then, membership has grown to include nearly three dozen professional artists and craftspeople, including those shown in this exhibit. Many members gather each month to share a meal and explore ways to enrich the artistic life of southern Vermont.
