What is Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki?

Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, translated as the Usui System of Natural Healing, is a healing art which uses Reiki energy to assist a person to come into a improved state of well-being through physical healing, mental and emotional balance, and spiritual growth.  It is an ancient healing system brought forward to the modern world by Mikao Usui.  Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning universal life energy or God energy.

    How does it work?

The Reiki practitioner is a conduit for the energy of Reiki and uses specific hand placements on their client.  A client draws the energy needed through the practitioner, and can experience a number of sensations, typically heat, coolness, vibration, and usually reaches a deep state of relaxation much like a meditative state.

    What can a client expect?

People have experienced healing on all levels depending on the person’s individual needs.  Healing can be dramatic and rapid, or follow a slower, more progressive path.

Is it possible to learn how to do Reiki?

Anyone can easily learn to treat themselves and others by attending a First Degree Seminar.  For additional information call Fran at 413-230-1077.

Francine, a Special Educator and Speech-Language Pathologist, became interested in the healing arts in 1977 when working in an institution with children with special needs; she wanted to do something to sooth their anxiety, and assist with what she considered their psychic pain, especially those who could not communicate verbally, but could only indicate distress through haunting vocalizations. Fran did not actually know if there was a way to do healing work, but the desire and image of a particular moment with a student stayed with her. The following February Fran visited Oregon and felt an undeniable calling to move there, so she took a leave of absence from her teaching position with inner city special needs children and moved to Eugene. It was here that she found many healing practices and studied Therapeutic Touch, Polarity Therapy, Acupressure, Metaphysical Wisdom, continued her practice of Yoga, participated and assisted in personal growth seminars, and had a brief introduction to Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). In 1982 Fran was initiated by Marta Getty into Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki and has since adopted Reiki as her primary healing practice. Fran actively volunteered for Client Council, a part of Legal Aid, and served as President for a year. Fran and her family moved to North Carolina in 1984, was certified as a Master Practitioner of NLP in 1987, using this powerful method in her work as a Speech-Language Pathologist and offering private sessions for personal growth, dealing with fears and phobias, as well as making transformational changes. Fran introduced NLP to Speech Pathologists with a seminar called The Magic of Rapport at the Florida Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists Association. During her 4 years in North Carolina she offered many introductions to the healing arts to various community organizations, and wished, besides treatments, that she could teach Reiki. The Sanford Herald wrote two articles about her: Central Carolina Woman and Fran Freeman believes in the Healing Power of Touch (1986). Fran was part of the beginning of the Family Violence and Rape Crisis Association, President for a year and received Governor Certificates for that work. Fran’s wish to be able to teach Reiki stayed with her through all these years and it came true in 1993 after she was initiated as a Master in Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki by Phyllis Lei Furumoto. Since that time, she has continued to treat and has taught hundreds of students. In 2013 Fran attended the Contact Program at SIT, and continued to complete 14 graduate credits in Peacebuilding and Social Justice. She created a program called KIDS, Keep Identity Strong, for teens and young adults. Fran offers Reiki sessions which may include NLP, First Degree and Second Degree Seminars, Deepening First Degree, Deepening Second Degree, Renewing First and Second Degree, Reiki Master training, Individual NLP sessions, Speech Therapy, and can officiate at weddings through her work with the Universal Brotherhood Movement. You can access current offerings on ReikiHearts on FaceBook. Fran’s web site is in process. Information about Usui Shiki Ryoho is available at www.reikialliance.com. Fran supports and is part of a number of organizations including The Vermont Reiki Association, The Reiki Alliance, Reiki Home, the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), and the Universal Brotherhood Movement.
